Seeing A union
Seeing a Union is a photography workshop that moves beyond a workshop into an art project of its own. it is a gathering of cultures, stories, and visions of what it means to come together. At its heart lies a simple question: how do we see “union”? Union here is limited to marriages. We explore the question of marriage with the understanding that the answers are as diverse as the people who hold them.
The Workshop
Over four weekends, emerging photographers will step into the class with esteemed photographer Wisdom Ifeanyi. Each session transforms into an editorial-style wedding shoot, exploring the raditions of unions across cultures. From the intricate details of a South Asian ceremony, to the vibrancy of anAfrican wedding. With each shoot, participants sharpen their technical skills lighting, composition, storytelling, while learning to honor the depth of cultural traditions.
Through this project, The Art of Being Black (TABB) invites participants to grow
as artists, to build portfolios rooted in both craft and culture, and to contribute to a broader conversation about identity, tradition, and togetherness.
Black Playwrights Development Workshop
Presented by Centra Cultural Collective in Collaboration with TABB
What It’s About
The Black Playwrights evelopment Workshop is here to give space, support, and visibility to emerging Black voices in theatre. Think of it as a creative home where your ideas can take shape with guidance, mentorship, and community. This is about carving out a place for Black stories to grow and thrive on stage.
What We’re Aiming For
- More Black voices represented in theatre
- A supportive, low-barrier space to try things out.
- Access to mentorship and professional feedback.
- A sense of community and collaboration among artists
- A chance to share your work through a public reading.
How It Works
Step 1: Apply
We’ll be choosing five playwrights through an open call. You don’t need a full script — bring a draft, or even just a strong idea you’re xcited about.
Step 2: Develop
Over several weeks, you’ll:
- Join guided writing sessions.
- Work one-on-one with experienced Black playwrights.
- Get dramaturgical support to shape your story.
- Share ideas and feedback with fellow participants.
Step 3: Share
At the end, we’ll host a staged reading of your work-in-progress. This is your chance to put your story in front of an audience, get real feedback, and spark future opportunities.
Who This Is For
This workshop is designed for:
- Emerging Black playwrights, no matter your experience level.
- Writers who’ve never had institutional support before.
- Artists with a story or idea they’re ready to explore.
- Anyone looking for mentorship, community, and a push to take the next step.
What You’ll Walk Away With
By the end, you’ll have:
- A stronger, more developed version of your play.
- Mentorship connections and professional feedback.
- Your work shared with a public audience.
- A foundation for future productions, residencies, or funding applications.
Why It Matters
This isn’t about perfection. It’s about process, experimentation, and growth. It’s about giving Black playwrights the room to create, to be bold, and to see their
work come alive.
